What actually drives the price
- Subfloor condition — an uneven or damaged subfloor has to be levelled before anything goes down, and it can't be assessed until the old floor comes up
- Removal and disposal — tearing out old tile or glued-down flooring is slow, dusty work and priced accordingly
- Layout and cuts — diagonal patterns, borders and lots of small rooms mean more cuts, more waste and more labour
- Moisture — concrete slabs and Vancouver basements need moisture testing, and the wrong material over a damp slab will fail
